Construction Safety Manager

Position Summary:
Working with the Construction Director and the Contracting Authority the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for setting out the vision for the management of Health Safety Wellbeing and Environmental during the project from commencement through construction, commissioning and handover.
The HSE Manager will have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the HSE function required for the project and will ensure compliance with all relevant HSE legislation.

The HSE Manager will provide directional support in the planning, measuring, reviewing and auditing of Health, Safety and Environmental activities on both a day to day and a strategic basis in relation to the construction of the project.  Develop and implement an HSE strategy for the project and the preparation of procedures (including safety statement, risk assessments and safety related protocols) to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety legislative and other requirements.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, with the Contractor, a best in class Health and Safety culture and build on that through the lifetime of the project, with demonstrable actions and outcomes
  • Oversee implementation of an effective safety management system for a large healthcare project 
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy for the overall project 
  • Carry out safety audits on all aspects of the project and report to senior management
  • Monitor and assess implementation of risk management and safety procedures on site 
  • Liaise with the construction director on performance management for all parties 

  • Senior construction safety manager with 15 years + experience in high level position
  • Engineering qualification with health & safety qualification 
  • Extensive experience in contractor communications and liaising with client and project teams as well as other construction professionals 
  • Previous experience in evaluating and implementing formal safety management systems
